LLRT Seminar

ILRT Seminar

This newly updated seminar is an intense two-day course on Appendix J Local Leak Rate Testing, (LLRT).

The latest issues effecting LLRT and its relationships to other plant programs, on-going risk based initiatives and the maintenance rule will all be addressed.

This course demonstrates how to take maximum advantage of the time and cost savings allowed under Option B while maintaining an excellent program.

The information presented is based upon lessons learned from industry experience since the introduction of Option B. The best practices from the industry leaders shall be presented to be used as benchmarks.

In addition, the 2002 revision to ANS 56.8 standard as well as the new revision to NEI 94-01 will be presented and the extensions to the ten-year Type A testing intervals will also be discussed.

The seminar provides the attendees with a solid basis in the technical and regulatory concepts that containment leakage rate testing is based upon.

Program issues equipment and calibration issues will all be addressed. Site-specific topics requested by the attendees will be discussed.

This Year’s Key Features

  • Risk based Appendix J initiatives
  • The proposed 20 year ILRT Interval status
  • Appendix J Owners’ Group Initiatives
  • The 2002 ANS 56.8 standard
  • The new revision to NEI 94-01
  • Substitution of functional tests in place of As-Left Appendix J tests
  • On-line Appendix J testing
  • Optimization of administrative limits for Type B and C testing
  • Site options when LLRT administrative limits cannot be met prior to start-up
  • Reduction in Type C testing venting and draining requirements
  • LLRT database programs
  • Graftel’s Appendix J information web site
  • Purge valve Type C test intervals
Site-specific issues researched on prior request and addressed in the seminar.

This Course Provides:

  • Attendees with the information on the best industry practices needed to take full advantage of the cost savings under Option B
  • A very firm basis in both the methodology and theory for performing LLRT’s
  • The technical and regulatory basis for primary containment leakage rate testing.
  • The Option B rule, NEI Guideline document, and the ANS 56.8-1994 standard inter-relations and interpretations
  • Examples of effective streamlined Appendix J programs
  • Relationships between IST and ISI programs to the Appendix J program
Guidance for addressing procedural issues, such as reverse direction testing, reportability and containment integrity.

This seminar is a one-day course on Appendix J Integrated Leakage Rate Testing, (ILRT).

The primary focus is on how to optimize Option B to perform short duration ILRT’s based on lessons learned from those performed since the introduction of Option B.

This course demonstrates how to take maximum advantage of the time and cost savings allowed, while maintaining an excellent program.

This Year’s Key Features:

  • Techniques to insure a short duration test
  • Up to 80% reduction in test valve line-up by not venting, recent experiences
  • Techniques to reduce instrument set-up time
  • Rapid depressurization methods and case studies

This Course Provides:

  • The information and tools needed to take full advantage of the new cost saving under Option B
  • A very firm basis in both the methodology and theory for performing ILRT’s
  • Hands-on training with state of the art ILRT equipment and software
  • Baseline software for verification of all ILRT calculations required by ANS 56.8-1994

Course Plan:

  • Concepts of Primary Containment Isolation
  • ILRT regulatory requirements
  • Theory and methodology
  • Strategies for performing a short duration test
  • Case studies of recent short duration Option B ILRT’s
  • ILRT equipment basics
  • Software use and equipment interface
  • Hands-on demonstration and training on equipment/software system
  • Procedural issues
Plant specific topics requested by attendees

Jim Glover: For 19 years, Mr. Glover worked for Exelon as the Appendix J coordinator. During that time he performed over 65 ILRT’s on both BWRs and PWRs.

He is currently the Chairman of the ANS 56.8 Standards Committee on containment leakage rate testing. He was a member of the NEI AHAC that wrote the Appendix J guideline document NEI-9401.

Graftel is also the facilitator of the newly formed Appendix J Owners Group, APOG.
